Inspired by stunning locations such as the Little Beach House in Malibu, the idea of making our primary dining area an outdoor feature blurs the boundaries and immerses us in the beauty of nature. After all, with over 300 days of sunshine each year in Malibu, why not dine al fresco? Seamless Design: Indoor and Outdoor Fusion The very heart of the design lies in the connectivity between the indoor Great Room and the outdoor dining area. Incorporating a cutting-edge solution — a 30-foot wall of Marvin pocket doors — creates a stunning visual flow that transforms the dining experience. With just the push of a button, these doors seamlessly disappear, allowing the kitchen, living space, and outdoor room to merge into one breathtaking environment. This innovative design encourages a lifestyle that is both relaxed and social, where meal times effortlessly transition into gatherings filled with laughter and shared stories. Inspirations Behind the Outdoor Room Drawing from experiences in remarkable spaces, such as Little Beach House and even Ibiza's El Chiringuito beach club, the vision for the outdoor room is to create an inviting atmosphere that feels like an extension of the home. The centerpiece of this area is a beautiful pergola made from rich wood beams, designed to create enchanting dappled light during the day and a cozy, intimate ambiance at night. Two Infratech heaters strategically placed will ensure warmth prevails even on the chilliest Malibu evenings, making it a year-round destination for family meals and social gatherings. The Right Materials: Beauty and Durability For the dining area flooring, the choice of ipé wood is both elegant and practical. Known for its durability and visual appeal, this hardwood will develop a silvery patina with time, enhancing the character of the space further. Additionally, the subtle lighting — minimal sconces attached to the pergola beams — casts a warm, candlelit glow that naturally draws people together, making every meal feel like an occasion. Furniture That Encourages Togetherness Seating plays a crucial role in fostering connection around the dining table. Rather than opting for standard dining chairs, a banquette design inspired by the soothing aesthetics of Ibiza will be utilized.
